Training and skills

Design Know-How:

We offer a range of training to introduce the principles of urban design and sustainability which will enable residents to contribute more effectively to the development of their neighbourhoods, towns and cities. Courses can cover:

  • How to make more successful places

  • How to make more sustainable places

  • How to assess design quality

  • How to decode professional and political jargon

  • How to understand plans, drawings and proposals

  • How to learn from others: looking at inspiring projects and visiting case studies

  • How to create better public spaces and green spaces

  • How to make places more inclusive and accessible

Spinning straw into gold:

Better resident involvement in built environment issues should result in better places but reaching people, developing productive dialogue and positive outcomes is a truly challenging endeavour. This training is for local authority officers, councillors, developers, RSLs and community leaders who would like to develop a wider range of strategies, tools, techniques and ideas to involve residents, particularly those who are often under-represented.
