A North East Historic Environment Forum Event

The Localism and Democracy Bill supports new flexibilities for local government as well as new rights and powers for local communities and a reform of the planning system – including new Neighbourhood Development Orders which may affect decision making processes in historic areas.

At the Making History events hosted by the North East Historic Environment Forum earlier this year, there was significant interest in community planning and requests were made to share learning from early neighbourhood planning pilots and other existing good practice in community planning. This event will provide that opportunity.

The speakers are covering the following topics:

Jules Brown
North of England Civic Trust
Conservation area appraisals and management plans – learning from existing good practice in community-led planning and heritage management

Sally Childes
Middlesbrough Council
Local listing practical procedure experiences

John Davies
English Heritage
Heritage Counts 2011

Carol Botten
Northern Architecture
10 Top Tips for Community Planning

Peter Watts
Berwick Community Development Trust
Neighbourhood planning – linking to regeneration and local priorities

Dr. Rob Young
English Heritage
Iain Hedley
Northumberland National Park
Community planning in Northumberland National Park – Village Atlas Project
