Make a splash in our urban paddling oasis, as Northern Architecture bring the river onto the quayside for little feet to enjoy - don't forget your towel! Or bring wellies and macs for splashing if a wet day!

A field of shallow puddles of water will be brought to the street surface in the form of a number of paddling pools. This mass of urban pools and puddles can be enjoyed and explored at street level, transforming visitors' usual experience of the Newcastle and Gateshead quaysides.

Pop-Up Paddling is supported by lead up workshops with pre-schools and early years centres in Newcastle and Gateshead.

Northern Architecture is the Architecture Centre for the North East, they are a small team of architects, designers, artists and educators whose work engages with people and places to spark more interest in the way we design and use the buildings and spaces around us.

Adult supervision required.

Suitable for youngsters under 1metre in height

The NewcastleGateshead Bridges Festival will take over the NewcastleGateshead Quayside and its famous bridges this August, celebrating the history, heritage and contemporary culture of the quayside and river landscape in fun, surprising and exciting ways.

On Saturday get involved in all the festival has to offer; take a punt on a pink duck with the Metro Radio Duck Race, hunt for treasure, attend a regatta with a difference, sail off in a shanty boat and when dusk falls see and hear the Swing Bridge and Gateshead Millennium Bridge in a new fiery light.

On Sunday explore the festival market, picnic, play, paddle in some very unusual spaces, and discover what's actually hiding under the bridge.
