This week, as part of BYKER LIVES (the Byker community archive project) Northern Architecture will begin working with Byker Primary School to create an animation of the building of Byker Estate.

The project’s engagement co-ordinator, artist Clara Crivellaro who is a resident of the estate will be working with a team of archiGRADs and an animator alongside year 5 pupils in the school to explore the estate using mind-mapping, photography, drawing, research of archive materials, model-making and investigative journalism. At the end of term their parent’s, grandparents and architects who were part of Erskine’s design team will be invited to take part in a tea-party and discussion led by the year 5 pupils, which will be recorded to create the animation’s sound-track. The finished animation and model will be previewed in the new year.
