School based workshop for Key Stage 3 & 4
Young people have a lot to say about their school buildings but how often do they get the opportunity to speak out? Film-making is the perfect way for pupils to communicate issues, ideas and aspirations.
Pupils work with film-makers and script-writers to develop the skills needed both in front of and behind the camera. Using journalistic, documentary and creative movie making techniques, pupils have the opportunity to express their opinions in relation to school design.
This exciting project may include a site visit to an exemplar school, skill-based sessions and a series of script-writing and film-making days.
Ideal for schools aiming to re-build and re-design their current building, enabling pupils to understand and inform the design process.
Participants explore what makes a sustainable school - building, grounds and community - and generate their own informed creative ideas for a sustainable school.
Discover how to conserve water, how to make your school more energy efficient or how to design a school garden!
This project is designed to support school improvement and sustainable development as outlined in the National Framework for Sustainable Schools.
Here is a film made with Kirk Merrington School looking at sustainability in design ahead of the redevelopment of their school building.
