Ove Arup's Kingsgate Footbridge in Durham was built in 1963 to link the old part of the city with new University buildings across the River Wear. The two halves of the simple and sophisticated structure are joined by bronze 'locks' which for Arup signified the bond between the city and the university. The bridge is one of XX 'listed' post-war buildings in the North East.
