Sunderland Railway Station

The artworks lift what could be otherwise a somewhat forbidding place and ass a much needed sense of fun to the chore of daily travel. The jury ere particularly taken by the artworks showing 'found' objects displayed as if they were adverts for well known household products.

Roseberry Park

The jury consider this scheme to be an exemplar of its type and were particularly impressed by the way the architects had manipulated the design to reduce its significant bulk into recognisably human scaled spaces. The integration of the landscape into the design is particularly well handled and the quality of the environment must contribute to the user's wellbeing.

Northumbria University City Campus

The jury considers that this scheme which ties together disparate parts of the Northumbria University campus demonstrates the level of quality that is possible when a good client brief is interpreted by a high quality design team.

North Tyneside Area Command

The final design is a quantum leap forwards from the municipal austerity that is often the norm with this type of building and the attention to detail both in basic planning and general functionality greatly impressed the jury.

Millfield House

The jury were impressed by the claim and controlled way the new and existing buildings were integrated and particularly like the way the architects had used cut-outs and recessing planes in the design of the building to ensure that existing views of the original building were maintained.

Gateshead Library

This project successfully combines the renovation of the existing library with a new extension to provide a holistic user environment.

Gateshead Heritage @ St. Mary's

The jury believes that the building clearly demonstrates that the client's brief has been met and commends the client and the architect for bringing an important historic monument back into meaningful use.

Dewar's Lane Granary

The jury feel that the client is to be commended for taking on a building with so many constraints and that the architect has demonstrated skill and sensitivity in pulling together in disparate parts of the brief. The modern interventions are highly successful and the linkages to the historic quayside and walls are a positive bonus.

Cruddas Park - Riverside Dene Phase 1

The generosity of space compared with many modern developments were noted and the jury particularly liked the mezzanine two bedroom flats which has been cut from unwanted single bedroom accommodation.

Berwick Workspace

This is clearly a successful building which matches its brief and the jury commend the way the architects have sympathetically slotted in a major development into the urban grain of the existing historic town centre.
