The jury considers that this scheme which ties together disparate parts of the Northumbria University campus demonstrates the level of quality that is possible when a good client brief is interpreted by a high quality design team.

Description

The most significant client requirement identified during the briefing process was for sustainable buildings. The campus is one of the first buildings in Europe to be subjected to – and exceed – new ‘green’ legislation introduced as a result of the Kyoto Treaty. A green ethos was incorporated into every stage of the development.

City Campus East is part of a £136 million investment by Northumbria University. The Campus opened in September 2007 and offers 24,000 square metres of accommodation. The Campus comprises two buildings that will provide a home to 9,000 students studying at Newcastle Business School, the School of Design and the School of Law.
