The A-Factor (2006)

Regional primary schools and colleges
February - June 2006

The A-Factor programme provides training for architectural assistants and newly qualified architects to deliver an educational project in primary schools and colleges in the North East.

In 2006 (the second year of the programme) thirteen architectural assistants worked in teams with two primary schools and two colleges. The group delivered the Chillooteries project which gave young people the opportunity to explore places through drawing, photography, collage and modelling a design for a place in which to 'chill oot'.

The results of this exciting collaboration were exhibited during Architecture Week 2006 in the Castle Keep, Newcastle upon Tyne, for the participants and public to view.

A joy to look at and think about.….love the Geordie term “chillooterie”. Mostly enjoyed lying back inside a big flower on the riverbank – feel chilled oot now!
