Walbottle School's Exhibition Success

Dance City
Architecture Week 2007: 15 - 23 June

Pupils from Walbottle Campus Technology College held an immensely successful exhibition during Architecture Week 2007.  As part of the How Places Work programme, funded by CABE, pupils in Year 9 visited Dance City in April and spent the following months developing work for the exhibition, which included their own designs for a Dance City building and graphic works for the building's exterior coloured glass panels.  During the week long exhibition, 717 people visited Dance City and saw pupils' work.  Many more would have been able to admire the stunning graphics adorning the building's large 1 x 2 metre coloured panels as they drove or walked along St James Boulevard.

The Visit
During their initial visit, pupils were given a behind-the-scenes tour, saw lighting and acoustic demonstrations and spent time drawing the building from every conceivable angle.  They created giant mood boards in response to what they had seen and from that developed their work for the exhibition.

More Visits...
As part of the CABE funded national project, Northern Architecture has also worked with pupils from Bedlingtonshire Community High School during a visit to Woodhorn and will soon be visiting Mima with a group of pupils from Thornaby Community School to inspire designs for their own gallery space back in school.
